Taiwan Day 39: Beautiful Night View of Taipei

Day Thirty Nine

I took an unexpected lesson on solar energy today at the Youth Park in Wanhua district. I knew that I was going to an environmental class but didn't know we were going to talk about solar energy. Apparently Germany is a world leader in solar energy and Taiwan produces a lot of solar panels for German companies. Also, that since Taipei is in a basin shape, if the ocean water level rises then there is potential for the city to flood.

One of my classmates was this old lady pictured on the left in the photo below. She is over 80 years old and can still walk around well on her own! She told me that she has a daughter who works in the United States and returns once a year to visit her.

In the evening Hui Chee and I met up with another new friend called Meng and her boyfriend, Bryan. We went to eat dinner near their old university (they graduated this month) and then visited the university itself.

Then we went to see to see the beautiful night view of Taipei. Bryan drove us up the windy road of a mountain, then we had to walk 10 minutes in the dark until we reached the spot but it was so spectacular! We went on the ferris wheel (green circle on the left side of the photo) at Miramar before and the view was not as nice as this. The only downside was that it was in an area with a lot of trees which meant mosquitoes!

Thank you for bringing us around Meng and Bryan :)

Take care,
